A New Affinity: I was in revival with a friend from several years ago and he began telling me about a unique situation in his church. He and his wife had a little girl die in an accident at a very young age. He had pastored for more than 14 years at a church and has recently moved to a new field of service. In this new ministry, he and his wife were extremely surprised to find out that over seven couples presently involved in the church that they knew of had children pass away in some type of accident at a young age. As we talked, they expressed again the hurt of doing something as unnatural as burying a child and repeated the old statement, “It is not supposed to happen that way. Children are supposed to bury their parents, not parents bury their children.” As we continued talking I thought, “What an opportunity God has unfolded before this new Pastor and wife and church family!” This is a rare and unique opportunity to minister in their church and, through their church, to possibly many others in the community that have walked down this road. I have never been placed in a situation to understand this type of hurt. My prayer would be that God not allow me to experience that, but some have. Some are walking through this deep valley. And God in His grace has a people that can identify with these people. A group of people that can love these people and minister to them. It’s a new affinity.
How many other groups of people do we have in our churches that can identify with a certain group and be used of God to minister where you and I possibly could not. That is the purpose of GCRC. God’s Purpose. Your Passion.
