During this time of year there are all types of New Year’s Resolutions made. I have been told that among the top resolutions made each year is the commitment to get into better physical condition. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that type commitment and it may do us all good. There are many methods used to get one’s self in better physical condition. Many doctors say there are few, if any. better than just simply walking. I began to think about churches evaluating where they have been this past year and where they are going this new year. Many commit to get into better condition. They made that same commitment last year. But their method of conditioning was like getting on a treadmill. Let me share with you what I mean. When a person gets on a treadmill, while it is good exercise, there are some things that are evident: 1.There is a lot of motion. (If you quit walking, you will hit the floor.) 2.There is a great deal of movement involved but you really don’t go anywhere. 3.There is no progress in where you are going. (When you get off a treadmill, you are in the same place you started.)
Could that possibly apply to your church? There has been a lot of motion this past year. There was always something going on. You expended a lot of effort and energy, but that was it. There was a great deal of movement around the church but you really did not go anywhere. As you look back, you were always doing something but it appear very little has been accomplished.
I have always heard that if you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time. That is where GCRC can benefit your church. Call your Regional State Missionary for further information. We will gladly assist you and your church as you seek to get off the treadmill.
