But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired (1 Corinthians 12:18).
God blessed my wife and I with three daughters. Even though they have the same parents they are uniquely diverse. Our eldest is a prolific writer that sees things in words that end up in sentences and paragraphs that help us see those things. Our middle daughter has a missions mentality that whether running, teaching or building community in her city relationships are always being built. Our youngest is a singer and creative in her own way as she makes things from scraps that others seem to want.
As you look at your church you may see a diverse group of people. God does that on purpose. He placed those people in your particular church for a reason. God will use different gifts and different expressions of those gifts in the same body for His glory and for kingdom advancement.
Here’s an assignment. Take your church directory. Get a pen and either next to the picture or on a separate sheet begin to make notes of the gifts, talents, associations and interests that you are aware of. You may be surprised at what you know or haven’t give much thought to regarding diversity in your church.
Regardless, the persons that sit on those pews (or in those chairs) each week are a valuable resource for kingdom work. Find ways to involve them more through their gifts, talents and interests. Contact your regional state missionary for more information regarding Great Commission Resource Centers.
