At this year's 201st Annual Meeting, you’ll hear from Georgia Baptist Mission Board leadership as well as an incredible lineup of pastors & authors.

Clay Smith

Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, Marietta

Clay has served as senior pastor of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, GA since August 2019. A native of Greenville, SC and the son of a pastor, Clay's passion for ministry revolves around the Great Commission, Matthew 28:18-20, with biblical focus in three major areas: evangelism, relational discipleship and missions. Clay earned a Bachelor of Music degree from University of South Carolina in 2001 and a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2005. He is currently a PhD student at Southwestern with a concentration in preaching. He and his wife, Terrica, have three daughters.

Jason Dees

Christ Covenant, Atlanta

Jason Dees is the pastor of Christ Covenant in Atlanta, GA. He and his wife Paige have 3 children Emery Anna, John Kellis, and Raynor. Jason grew up in Alabama and earned a degree from Auburn University. He went on to earn an MDiv in Christian Ministry and Ph.D. in Historical and Biblical Spirituality from Southern Seminary. He has served as the Senior Pastor of New Washington Christian Church (IN), First Baptist Covington (GA), and Valleydale Church (AL). His work in these churches has included bringing new vision, revitalization, and a deeper commitment to the mission of Christ. In 2017 he led the effort to plant Christ Covenant in the heart of Atlanta seeking to reach one of the most secular areas of the Southeastern United States for Christ. Jason has served as an adjunct professor for Midwestern Seminary and Reformed Theological Seminary and regularly teaches for the Kanakuk Institute. His articles have been published in The Gospel Coalition, For the Church, among other newspapers and publications. He has also had multiple papers selected for presentation at the Evangelical Theological Society’s annual meeting. During his free time, Jason enjoys travel, the outdoors, keeping up with Auburn Athletics, and spending time with his family.

Chuck Chambers

Woolsey Baptist

Chuck has been serving as the Lead Pastor at Woolsey Baptist in Fayette County since 1987. He and his wife Lisa have three adult children, David, Steven, and Kari, and ten grandchildren. Chuck graduated from Columbia International University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Chuck enjoys hunting, cycling, and reading.

Josh Saefkow

Flat Creek Baptist

Dr. Josh Saefkow is the President of Georgia Baptist Convention, which makes up the largest religious, faith-based group in the state with 1.4 million people. A native of Creston, Ohio, Pastor Josh came to Flat Creek in December of 2016. He has an earned Doctorate from Gateway Seminary of Los Angeles, California. He is married to Kelsie Saefkow, from Macon, GA. They have two daughters Chloe and Sophie.

Shane Pruitt

North American Mission Board

Shane serves as the National Next Gen Director for the North American Mission Board (NAMB). He and his wife, Kasi, reside in Rockwall, TX with their six children – Raygen, Harper, Titus, Morris, Elliot, & Glory. He has been in ministry for over 20 years as a denominational leader, church planter, lead pastor, and student pastor. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies, a Master’s Degree in History, and a PhD in Clinical Christian Counseling.

Shane is also a traveling communicator, evangelist, and Bible teacher. Every year he speaks to over a hundred thousand people about the good news of Jesus Christ. He is also the author of many articles that have been picked up by RELEVANT, Christianity Today, The Christian Post, The Gospel Coalition, CrossWalk, Church Leaders, The Baptist Press, FaithIt, HelloChristian, and others. Shane and his wife, Kasi, were featured as ABC’s Nightly News “Persons of the Week” in August 2017.

Shane has written two books, 9 Common Lies Christians Believe: And Why God’s Truth Is Infinitely Better and Calling Out the Called: Discipling Those Called to Ministry Leadership. Both books are available everywhere books are sold. He is also one of the hosts of The Gensend Podcast (available on podcast platforms), and the YouTube Channel – GenSend.

The Second Stage will introduce you to pastors and ministry leaders across Georgia who have responded to God’s call on their lives. You’ll find these interviews inspirational and educational as you return home to equip your church for sending them into the community, nation, and world.
