SURGE150 2023

SURGE 150 updated Banner

Many of the students and children in our churches have God-given musical abilities, but they aren’t sure how to develop them. SURGE150 is a music camp designed to help students develop their talents in a safe environment. Each age group will have opportunities specific to learn from well-qualified faculty. This camp includes mass rehearsals, elective classes in music and the arts, devotionals, worship times, praise band training, and more.

SURGE150 camps are overnight camps and the cost includes lodging and meals for the week. Students are housed in dorms on the campus of Shorter University.  All of the adults that attend SURGE150 (either as a sponsor from a church or as staff/faculty member of SURGE150) undergoes the onboarding process for the Georgia Baptist Mission Board and includes MinistrySafe Training and Certification.

Below is a brief description for each camp.

Children’s Music Camp (for students completing grades 3-6):  Students have their own lodging (dorm), their own class schedule and faculty that is separate from the Middle/High School camps.  The day’s activities include:  Breakfast, Music Fun/Vocal Classes, Choir Rehearsal, Worship, Lunch, First Elective, Second Elective, Rehearsal, Recreation, Dinner, Third Elective, Rehearsal, Supervised “Free” Time, Group Devotional at end of each day.

Most churches bringing several elementary aged students will opt to also have an adult(s) present during the week as a “sponsor”.   If your church is interested in sending a sponsor please contact Dana Bailey (dbailey@gabaptist.org; 770-936-5265). If a church does not have an adult attend, we will assign students to a sponsor who will be in charge of those students throughout the week.

Middle School Music Camp (for students completing grades 6 – 8): We give the option for a 6th grader to attend either children’s camp or middle school camp based on their maturity level.  We sometimes have churches that will have an adult attend with students.  However, again, if not, we will assign a sponsor for your student.

*Middle and High School camps share class schedules, worship time, rec time and meals.   When it comes to the main tracks for the camps (Choir, Instrumental, and Praise Band/Team) this is where they have separate rehearsal times and they are also lodged in separate wings or hallways of dorms.  The day’s activities include: Breakfast, “Power Up”, Music Theory Classes, Rehearsals for main tracks, Lunch, Section Rehearsals for main tracks, Elective 1, Elective 2, Free/Recreation Time, Dinner, Rehearsals for main tracks, Worship, Evening Showcase.
