Pastor, do you realize that you have a gold mine in front of you every Sunday? Some might say, “There’s gold in them there pews!” Sitting in the church pews in front of you each week are people with connections to many different people. They know people you do not know. They know people you may never know. These are lost people and people that you will never reach.
I remember many a day of frustration because I could not motivate my people to do what I wanted them to do. It never occurred to me to motivate them to do what they were already doing, and do it “as to the Lord.” What a novel idea to mobilize members to minister where God has placed them. Imagine friends bringing friends and work associates to church. Picture your members realizing that they are missionaries and being on mission right where they live.
That farmer knows other farmers. That school teacher knows other school teachers. Those students (you guessed it), know other students. Then there are those deer hunters that have a deer lease with several other buddies and some of them are lost and need Jesus. We could go on and on and on. What I am saying is that you have church members who can become church missionaries to these “people groups.”
Yes, there’s gold in them there pews. Better yet there are missionaries.
