Live Sent – Jesus said, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” (John 20:21, NASB)
We live in an age of social media. We post and post and post again. Email has overwhelmingly replaced “snail mail” in our culture. I love email. An email is composed to be SENT. It may be sent immediately or scheduled for later, but ultimately it is SENT.
We are SAVED to live sent. We are not saved to sit in a gathering, but scattered to proclaim a Savior. Now I am not minimizing the importance of the CHURCH GATHERED, but I am reminding you of the CHURCH SCATTERED. Jesus said, “(You) shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and even to the remotest part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8b)
We are saved to live sent. Jesus never intended that we just go to church, but that we be the church. I have heard our Georgia Baptist Mission Board Executive Director, Dr. J. Robert White say, “Our churches DO church well…but God did not call us to DO church, He called us to BE the church.” We do preach well. We sing well. We are good at doing events and carrying out program ministry. We are good at doing church, but God called us to be the church.”
Someone has said, “The measuring stick for a successful church is not seating capacity, but sending capacity.” Yet the majority of church members never go on a mission trip, never attend outreach or share their faith with the lost. If saved they sit in the “OUTBOX” never fulfilling the purpose for which Christ saved them (if they are saved at all). I have had church members who get upset at someone for bringing water into the “sanctuary”, but they have never offered a cup of cold water in Jesus name. They are saving that cup of cold water for when the Spirit of God gets ready to do something in their church. YOU’RE WELCOME!
Jesus did not say, “As the Father has sent Me, I would like to send you. He did not say, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you. If it pleases you.” He said, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”
We are to LIVE SENT at work, at home, at play and even in church. Do your co-workers know you are a follower of Jesus Christ? Why not? What about your neighbors, the guy at the convenience store, the greeter at Walmart or the one-time acquaintance in your day to day life?
The God-Man, the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ did not stretch out His arms to be nailed to a cross so you and I could sit and soak on a church pew or live a silent Christianity, but that He might save us from our self and our sins and that we might LIVE SENT>
