An illustration on lostness: I remember as a young boy growing up when we were on the playground at school and some bully may come along and pick on younger or smaller kids. Many people would just watch the bully and not get involved saying, “He is too big to hit.”
I wonder if that may have been the mindset of the children of Israel upon facing the giant, Goliath, and hearing his challenge. Others shirked back in fear as many saw him as “too big to hit.” Then along came a little shepherd boy by the name of David. Upon hearing the challenge of Goliath to the children of Israel, David did not see him in fear as the others had done. David saw him as “too big to miss.”
When we as Georgia Baptists hear of all the lostness comprised of the millions of people in our state, many are overwhelmed by the size of the giant of lostness that looms before us. That is where the GCRC (Great Commission Resource Centers) comes in. Jesus gave us the command to “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to ever creature….”. We all understand that the literal interpretation is, “As you are going”. Jesus presumed we would be going into the world about our regular daily routine. As we do that, we come into contact with lostness on a regular basis. These people have various interests. Another word for their interests is their affinity. Something they have a passion for.
The focus of GCRC is to awaken the fellowship of believers, known as the local New Testament Church, to their potential of reaching people where they are.
The giant of lostness in Georgia is too big to miss. We must be intentional as we are missionaries in our local churches, going out into a world of lostness.
