Groups on Mission: The Missional Secrets of Small Groups (Part 1)
GOD LOVES SMALL GROUPS! He started everything with a very small group!
In the beginning, God created a family starting with the simplest formula possible. He put one man and one woman in a garden. He created all the resource they needed. He commissioned them to be fruitful, to multiply and to subdue the earth. He called them to live into their identity representing Him as His family! The result = a population of 7.2 billion+. God’s plans are potent.
When God called a people to Himself, He started with one man, Abram. He commissioned them to share His blessings with all the earth. God’s promise was to make Abraham’s family as numerous as the stars in the sky. The result = the nation of Israel.
In Jesus’ ministry, He identified a new kind of extended family. “Pointing to his disciples, he said, ‘Here are my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.'” (Matthew 12:49-50) Jesus identified His followers as God’s family on earth, carrying on His Father’s business. Jesus created the Church as His Family on Mission.
This common thread was intentional! God used SMALL GROUPS to carry out His mission. He has empowered us to do the same! He has even shown us through His life, His teachings and the practice of the early church some SECRETS to make that work.
In the next blog article, we will highlight some of these secrets!
