The other day as I was driving I noticed the driver behind me was very impatient because I was just driving along at my own pace. They were in a tremendous hurry, wanting to go faster than I was traveling……throwing up their hands and shouting. Maybe they had an important meeting to go to or maybe they were late picking up their kids from school, whatever their reason, it was urgent so as soon as I got the opportunity I just pulled over and let them pass. That little episode made me start thinking how important it is to keep pace with the work of the Kingdom.
We don’t all travel at the same pace in the church world. Some churches are content to just “mosey along”. They’re not worried about winning the lost, developing disciples, or giving to mission causes. Just a ho-hum kind of attitude every Sunday. Then there are those churches that seem to be desperately seeking every way possible to reach the lost. They are open to new and innovative ways to get the gospel message to everyone. I believe these churches recognize the urgency of getting the Good News to everyone everywhere.
I know any pastor would love to see the urgent pace for his church. It’s only as we see the urgency of reaching the lost, that we begin to move into action to find ways to carry out The Great Commission. After all, The Great Commission wasn’t a suggestion, it was a command from the Lord Himself!
