Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is January 22

On January 13, 1984, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed that January 22 would be the first National Sanctity of Human Life Day.

January 22 is the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision to legalize abortion-on-demand in the U.S. in 1973.

This month marks the 50th Anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, which led to the deaths of over 60 million little children in the United States alone.

The good news is that today, we celebrate last year’s overturning of Roe v. Wade and recommit as the hands and feet of Jesus to work together to build a culture of life in Georgia that ministers both to mothers and babies.

The next National Sanctity of Human Life Day is on Sunday, January 22.

Traditionally, churches recognize the third or fourth Sunday of January as Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.

Respect for all human life begins with respect for life in the womb (Genesis 1:26-27; Psalm 139). So that abortion will become unthinkable in a post-Roe era, we need to teach that respect for life begins inside the womb! [See this recent 2022 GBC resolution on The Church in a Post-roe Era.]

By doing so, we will have a positive impact on the value and sanctity of life outside the womb. We need to trust the Lord’s value for ALL human life.
