Summer camps, VBS, and summer mission trips are over and you’ve been busy starting your Fall Ministries. But there’s one aspect of summer that you don’t need to leave behind. What about those families that brought their children to your VBS? Sure you sent them a card and maybe even asked someone to make a personal contact. But don’t stop there.
Fall is a great time to reconnect with those families. Invite them to your Fall Outreach Event (Fall Festival, Trunk or Treat, Harvest Festival). And while they’re at your event, you can introduce the parents to their Sunday School or Small Group leader as well as the children’s leaders. Help those families connect with others in a small group that may have children the same age or common interests and hobbies. Find out if the families have needs that someone in your congregation may be able to help meet.
One of the goals for VBS should always be to reach out to families with the truth of the Gospel. Fall is a great time to follow-up with those families to let them know you still care about them. Don’t miss out on a great opportunity to show them.
The week of VBS is long over – but the new connections should never end.
For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, “‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’” Acts 13:47
