July 24, 2020: David Melber to Join Staff as COO
DULUTH — David Melber, former president of SEND Relief for the North American Mission Board, began as chief operations officer for the Georgia Baptist Mission Board on July 15.
In his role, Melber will oversee GBMB financial services, human resources, Disaster Relief, associations, and all property and facilities.
“David Melber provides a wealth of experience and expertise to this position,” said Georgia Baptist Executive Director W. Thomas Hammond, Jr. “While he will be giving leadership to the business side of the GBMB, it is important to know that he is a spiritual leader who maintains a vibrant relationship with the Lord.
“I am excited about this addition because it makes us better. We will be able to serve our pastors, their families, and churches more effectively and efficiently.”
Melber has served as SEND Relief president for the last five years. A Kentucky native, he received his bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering from Murray State University and proceeded to work on the corporate level in the construction industry. He would later earn a Master of Divinity in Missions from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. Prior to joining NAMB, he served with Crossings Ministries, the last 12 as CEO and president.
“I am excited and humbled to join GBMB in serving the churches across this state as we seek to proclaim the gospel to our state and the world,” Melber said.
In college, Melber was a professional fishing guide who also participated in tournaments. As such, hunting and fishing continue to be passions for him. He and his wife, Tera, have six children, three of whom are internationally adopted.
