Divine Appointments

By Steve Foster

“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.”

— Matthew 9:37

Our daily lives are filled with moments that may seem ordinary to us but are actually divine appointments—opportunities God places in our path for His purposes.

In the Gospels, Jesus was never too busy or distracted to notice people. He lived with intentionality. He was fully present, attentive to the needs around Him, and obedient to the Father.

As followers of Christ, we are called to live the same way.

Sharing the good news of Jesus and the cross isn’t reserved for Sunday morning, a special evangelism event, or a mission trip. Evangelism is meant to flow naturally through our everyday lives.

The person sitting beside you.
The coworker you see every day.
The neighbor who needs encouragement.
The friend walking through a difficult season.
The stranger God brings across your path.

What if these encounters aren’t interruptions to our day—but opportunities God has intentionally placed in our day?

Gospel intentionality means living alert, available, and loving within our circle of influence.

We don’t have to force conversations. We simply need to be ready when God opens the door.

Action Steps

Pray for Awareness

Ask God each morning to make you spiritually sensitive to the people and opportunities He places in your path.

Start Simple Gospel Conversations

Look for natural openings—questions, struggles, celebrations, or life circumstances—where you can authentically talk about your faith.

Share Your God Story

Keep it simple. Tell people what Jesus has done in your life and clearly point them to His death on the cross for our sins and His resurrection.

Invite with Clarity and Love

When the opportunity comes, be ready to explain the gospel and invite someone to respond to Jesus Christ in repentance and faith.

Reflection Questions

  • Am I living alert to God’s divine appointments each day, or am I rushing past them?
  • Who has God already placed within my circle of influence?
  • How comfortable am I sharing my personal God story?
  • What fears, distractions, or busyness might be keeping me from engaging in gospel conversations?

Prayer

Lord, slow me down enough to see people the way You see them. Give me eyes to recognize the divine appointments You place before me. Give me courage, clarity, and compassion to share Jesus wherever You lead. Help me remember that every conversation can become an opportunity to point someone toward the hope found in Christ. Amen.

Don’t miss the divine appointments God places in your path today.
