NOW or NEVER: Religious liberty protection in Georgia

By “now or never” I am referring to the opportunity for RFRA to be passed THIS YEAR!

Midnight this Thursday, March 28th, marks the end of the final day of the 2024 legislative session!

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) SB180, authored by Sen. Ed Setzler, is in its final stage for approval!

The RFRA has passed the Senate with strong support. However, at the time of sending this email, the bill STILL has not had a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee. Here are the names of those members.

This bill is VERY important because it provides people of faith the same protections from state and local government actions that they now have from federal government actions.

As of today 26 or more states have passed this same bill. The reason why is our ability to worship and stand on our convictions freely are being attacked and the war will be increasing in the days to come.

Here is a short video of the RFRA portion of Alliance Defending Freedom’s Attorney, Matt Sharp’s presentation at the 2024 Georgia Baptist Pastors Day.

FACT: We must stand up for religious freedom in our country, if for no other reason than for missions and evangelism!

RFRA restores the original intent of the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

This original intent encourages churches to press on with evangelism and missions. Our stand for religious freedom is part of our responsibility as American Citizens to continue promoting the Gospel in the public square!

Please continue praying intentionally and contacting your state House member now to urge him or her to voice their support for RFRA to their colleagues and to vote for it if it comes to the floor of the House for a vote.

Need to know exactly who to call? Here are your next steps:

Navigate to https://pluralpolicy.com/open/ and put in your physical address. You will then see your legislators. It will show your STATE representatives in the list.  “Chamber: Lower” is your House representative. They are the one you would call or contact.

In your communication, kindly urge them to:

  1. Support RFRA, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act for Georgia, and,
  2. To encourage a hearing on it as soon as possible.

EXAMPLE:
Hello this is John Doe who lives in your district in the [YourTown] area. First of all, thanks for all you are doing to represent myself and your other constituents. I’m calling today because I am very concerned that we can’t get the Religious Freedom Restoration bill out of committee.  Our state and people are in desperate need of this protection. We are in a day where people are attempting to take away the religious freedom that our constitution has protected us with for many years.  I want to ask you if there’s any way that you can help get this bill out of committee so that it can have a hearing in the House Judiciary? I appreciate all you do. We need you now, not only for our future but our children and grandchildren’s future.

It is for such a time as this that I believe the Lord has brought us into His Kingdom to stand up for religious freedom in our nation. Let’s remain strong in our faith to our Lord!

God bless you as you press on for Christ!
